It’s simple. Jesus came to save sinners.
1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
We have become so accustomed to the “What can Jesus do for me Gospel?” that we have forgotten the original plan and purpose for Jesus’ timely appearance in the Earth.
He came to save the lost, to set the captive free, to restore sight to the blind, to boldly proclaim the Jubilee Year of the Lord. He came for me. He came for you. He came because He loved the World.
And really…this is a “How can I serve Jesus?” Gospel.
Church and I mean the people are a sign. The corporate church is a sign to the nations that Jesus is Lord. It is a sign that His power is present today. That He is still coming into His chosen people to save those who are lost.
Church gatherings were never meant to be places where we are presented with idealized versions of Jesus and the Gospel, presented in wonderfully orchestrated oratorical packages that are easily digestible and practically useless.
No! Our gatherings together as the church are meant to equip us to go out and save that one person for whom Jesus came.
I believe that if Jesus were here today, he would say, “Away with your endless conferences, your political discussions, your huge video screens, your smoky sanctuaries and coffee shops!” He would say, “Go! Save the lost. Be me to a broken world!”
It’s time we caught Jesus’ vision for the world, left our pews and start being Jesus to a lost and dying world.
